Is it true that men tend to take self-care less seriously? We need our brothers, husbands and fathers to be strong and healthy both physically and mentally in order to be there to support us in taking care of our kids. In my last post, I shared with you 10 self-care tips for busy mums. I got quite a few messages in my inbox asking if I can write some self-care tips for dads too. Thanks for giving me another topic to write on so as to inspire the men in our lives.
So for today, I will be sharing with you some of the mental and physical self-care tips for dads and men in general. I am no expert in this area but I will give it my best shot.
It is very common to hear men say ‘all is fine’. They may ignore issues that relate to their health and may not want to preoccupy their families when they do have these health issues. They are also ignorant of the fact that while they neglect self-care, they develop unhealthy habits that may affect them physically and mentally.
It is high time for our men to take on self-care as a priority in their lives. I wouldn’t say it is selfish to take care of yourself…would you? Dads need to know that their health is very important to their families as they depend on them. I know it can be easy for dads to devote less time on self-care activities due to their jobs or entrepreneurial schedules. These easy-to-do self-care tips below will be of great help to them
Physical exercise improves your health and reduces the risk of you developing several diseases. Look for the right exercise that works for you. Not everyone likes to go to the gym. You can try using a home workout video. What about doing some exercises with your baby? It can be biceps curls with your baby in the pushchair or doing squats with the baby in your arms. Babies love motion, so you might as well do some exercise while baby-sitting.
Good nutrition is very important if we want to live a healthy lifestyle. Alongside exercises, a healthy diet will help you to maintain your weight and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Dads, because of their busy schedules, often eat as per convenience and not by practicing healthy eating. A balanced diet provides you with the energy and nutrients needed for growth. This helps you to stay strong and healthy for your family.
It can be meditation or just sitting quiet for a few minutes. Meditation helps to relieve stress and this improves our quality of sleep. Once you are less stressful, you become more happy. We know you are too busy. Get up a few minutes earlier than schedule or sacrifice 15 minutes of your evening newspaper or TV time to be still. Stay still and let your body rest. Breathe and move your body slowly and that’s it.

Disconnect for at least one hour. Switch off everything that connects you to the digital world. Go back to the basics. Put everything on pause and set the mind free. Doing that will help you recharge your mind and body. Cutting off from technology from time-to-time helps to
Men are not that talkative when it concerns their health. They are always silent doing whatever they are doing and thinking it’s okay. Getting outside your comfort zone will help you to be more productive, foster creativity and make things more flexible for you in the future. You can try out something different like new food, hang-out with someone different from you, read something new and so on.
Learning a new skill makes your mind grow stronger. It keeps your interest level high making you not to get easily bored. Learning a new skill breaks the monotony of life and prevents boredom from settling. It also makes your mind and perceptions change. This makes it easy for you to adapt to changes in life.
This is all I’ve got for you today.
