Use These Daily Goal Setting Tips To Set Yourself Up For Success

Setting daily goals is just like I said in another post breaking your tasks into bits to fight procrastination. Goals are very important in our lives whether they are long term or short term. The goals may fail not because we did not do our best to achieve it but because we did not plan well. What we need to do is to break down these goals into bits of achievable sub-goals. I thought doing so on a daily basis will be very helpful. Let me share below with you some daily goal setting tips that may help you set yourself up for success.

1. You need to start with a long term goal

For you to engage in a daily goal setting, you first of all need to have prepared a long term target of what you plan to do. Something like knowing your destination before you make out plans to engage in the journey. This is very important because it will help you to know the route you have to take.

Do not forget that you may once in while change the direction or the route when it becomes necessary. Hence, you need to know your long term goals in other to determine how your short term goals will look like. These short term goals could now be broken down to daily goals.

2. Jot down a list of your goals

Knowing your goals does not mean you master them and can go about it easily. The best way to go about it is to make a list of all your goals. You can then break them down into small achievable units. It could be weekly, monthly, yearly or even life goals. You can also rank them in order of importance.

After that, you will now need to spend time thinking of how long you can achieve each goal. For your daily goal setting to be achieved, you will need to choose a few of your specific goals, whether long term or short term and break it down into smaller steps that can be achieved daily. Breaking them down will reduce your the stress as well as make you happier in the long run.

3. Make out a daily goal setting plan

With a list of your goals already made and broken down into bits, it is now time for you to plan on how to achieve them on a daily basis. Take a look at your day from the start as if it was already the end if you really want your daily goal setting plan to be effective. Planning is very necessary because it makes us to focus on what we have to do.

If your goal is to lose weight and get in shape, then you will need to focus on the weight loss goal per day. How many calories do you wish to burn? How do you plan to achieve it? You may decide to focus on walking or jogging more.

You need to know the number of steps you have to walk or jog to burn the approximate number of calories you want. The best time to make a daily goal setting plan is early in the morning when your mind is still fresh.

4. Set benchmarks

Benchmarks or deadlines are very necessary when trying to achieve your goals. You may sometimes focus more on your daily goal setting while losing sight of the entire goal. To accomplish your plans, you will need to set deadlines. Benchmarks and deadlines keeps you motivated and provides feedback on what’s working, what’s not working and what you need to improve.

You may use a calendar which will help you stay committed to your goals or timeline. This is a good practice because you feel satisfied each time you cross out a completed goal or objective.

5. Your daily goals should be achievable

Most of the time we think we can achieve more by setting daily goals that are non-realistic. We need to make sure we have a realistic time-frame when engaging into daily goal setting. You need to know the length of your project and as well set a deadline. If it is a long term goal, make sure you consider each step that you will take.

Add all the time frame of each step together to know the possible length of time your project will take. Take for instance, if you work 8 hours daily full-time and 4 hours part-time, it will be unrealistic for you to make a goal that may take 8 hours of your daily time again. It may even make it real hard for you to commit on achieving your goal.

You may be planning to start a project or in the middle of one. It is a really great. Do not forget that you have to engage in a daily goal setting that will take on your project one step at a time. Setting unrealistic goals will put a lot of pressure on you and may lead you to work too much. This will kill your motivation and may lead you to abandon the project.

It is very necessary for you to take your time, break the goal into sub-goals and make sure you remind yourself that you are working to achieve a bigger goal.
