Overcoming insecurity is crucial because if it is not fully handled, it can be exhausting, and become a real problem. Insecurities can paralyse and push you further away from your goals thereby turning your life into a desperate battle.

To prevent that from happening, in this article, I would share three tried and tested steps to help overcome insecurities permanently.

1) Do the reality check.

See your insecurity from a completely rational perspective. Is the danger really that great, or is the fear completely exaggerated?

Usually, nothing bad can happen:

  • You are making a mistake. So, what – no one will turn away from you permanently because of it.
  • You fail at one endeavour. Then you will find a new, better way.
  • The others see your excitement. Because of this, too, you will not be left alone suddenly. Everyone knows this feeling.

The list could go on forever, the fact is, you are only insecure because you imagine terrible things that could happen. But often these things are not even realistic.

As soon as you understand this and no longer give as much faith to your worries, they will immediately lose their strength over you.

2) Go into fear.

You now know that nothing terrible is going to happen. So, will you take the step into fear and face those situations in which you are unsure of? That is the key!

Most people run away from these situations and never develop the necessary skills needed to face those insecurities upfront. If we do not learn to deal with the pressure, doubt and uncertainty will grow.

We should try to seek out those situations that make us feel uncomfortable and consciously get through them. Every time you feel more secure, your self-confidence grows. When you have more confidence in yourself, you tend to get even better results. This is because you are following your own path, and you become more and more indifferent to what others feel or think, which reduces the uncertainty even more.

3) Become the master of your thoughts.

Your thoughts play a big role on how you handle uncertainty. Therefore, you must not leave them unattended. Accept it, but also consciously influence it. Whenever you face a challenge and get out of your comfort zone, praise yourself for it and be enthusiastic, no matter how the situation turns out. Just because you have tried it, you should feel good and celebrate.

Feel like a hero! Few people have the courage to do so. Only then will you tackle such situations again. Imagine that you were able to overcome your fear of rejection and instead of feeling crappy, you should feel empowered because you were able to tackle that insecure feeling.

You should associate joy with facing and confronting your fears. The result does not matter. The process is the only thing that matters!

It also helps you immensely switch off your thoughts to deal with the situation as calmly as possible.

Conclusion: Overcoming insecurity  – what do you have to do to achieve this?

Insecurities run deep. It is a big job to work on and get rid of. But the results are well worth the effort! You will feel freer, you can appear more authentic and build more open connections with other people, and countless new possibilities will open for you. So, do not hesitate. Get ready and tackle your insecurities today.
