Who would’ve thought that 2020 was going to be year for us to get back to basics with our hygiene and personal care?
Handwashing has never been this important! Come to think of it who created the handshake? It is a very filthy habit don’t you think?! I am sure the world will change for the better after this nasty virus.
Let’s use this period of self-isolation to pause and take care of health and wellbeing in order to build on our natural immunity which is much needed for our bodies to waive off and fight this virus.
Incorporate some physical activity into your day, add more vegetables and fruits into your diet, drink enough water, sleep and recharge fully and most importantly stay in touch with loved ones
The post today aims to highlight and remind you of some basic and essential habits to help reduce the spread of Covid-19…as if you haven’t seen, heard and read enough! Oh well the health practitioner in me couldn’t resist writing this post today so here we go….
Wash your hands
Excellent hand hygiene is one of the best ways to help reduce the spread of infections including Covid-19. It is an essential recommendation to follow irrespective of whether you have the disease or not.
Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing and sneezing, also before eating and preparing food.
Soap and water are the best options, but if you don’t have one, you can look for a disinfectant gel with at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, especially if you don’t maintain good hand hygiene.
Wear a Facemask
It is believed that Covid-19 is spread by droplets in the air just as the flu hence wearing a facemask will help prevent its further growth. Use a facemask for proper hygiene to help contain and reduce the spread of this pandemic.
Cover Mouth and Nose when Coughing and Sneezing
Cough and sneeze are the prominent factors that spread the virus within a short time. Whenever you must cough and sneeze, remember to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue to catch any bug, bin it immediately and wash your hands.
This is something you should do even if you don’t have the coronavirus. It is a basic preventive measure to reduce the spread of germs. You also have the option to cough and sneeze on the inside of the elbow to protect your hands.
Do not share personal items
Use your own cutlery and glasses, shower towels and beddings. Also, after using any of these items, you should wash them carefully.
Clean and disinfect your home daily
The coronavirus can remain on the surface of tables, desks, doorknobs, toilets, sinks, as well as computers and mobile phones. Therefore, it is important to maintain correct and daily hygiene at home.
Hygiene and personal care are crucial and very important to help contain and reduce the spread of this pandemic. Stay safe, do your bit and remember that every little effort will go a long way to protect you, your loved ones, your neighbours, your community, your city and your nation.
