Everybody wants to live a happy life in spite of the daily challenges and struggles we face. To achieve this, it depends on the freedom we have in the choices we make. We can even find happiness in our daily struggles and hustles. Below are some selected tips that can help you live a happy life.

1. What is happy life to you?

To live a happy life, you need to first know the meaning of a ‘happy life’ to you. The answer to this question is different for everyone. What is good for the goose may not be good for the gander. There are times we are in a situation where happiness seems to have gone on a long holiday. If you can be able to know what makes you unhappy, it will be easy to know what can make you happy. The moment you identify what can make you happy, you can go ahead and do it because that is what will bring you the happiness you so much desire to have.

2. Spend time with family and friends

Loneliness is one of the things that comes in especially when we are frustrated with the things that happen to us. We tend to isolate ourselves from others and live as an island. That won’t help you to enjoy a happy life which is what all of us need.

Staying socially unconnected is one of the worst things you can put yourself into. Family and friends have been seen to be the key things that improve ones life. Good relationship with the people around you will help you be a happy person. Of course you will be able to know who these people are from their actions towards you. You will need to go close to the ones that add happiness to your life. Not all friends and family may bring you joy, but then sharing good news and listening to good news amongst yourself can improve your life.

3. Show gratitude daily

Gratitude is one thing that can help you to achieve your goal of living a happy life. Appreciating others and the little things in your life makes you look at things on a bright side – counting your blessings.

Gratitude is a solution to negative emotions. It helps destroy envy, worry, hostility and irritation. Gratitude is not only about saying ‘thank you’. It is more than that and we should look at it in a broader sense. You can be grateful as well by appreciating your life and the happenings in your life. 4. Forgive others and yourself

As social beings, we will always have to interact with people with various characters daily. Some will hurt us while others will make us laugh. Just as we rarely forget happy moments, that is how we don’t forget the bad things that happen in our life. We usually don’t want to give a chance to those who are the cause of the sadness. For us to live a happy life void of bitterness and resentment, we have to forgive those that have wronged us.

5. Be optimistic

Optimistic people are usually happy people. They look at the happy side of life. They are usually free from worries because they feel there will be a happy end in the things that affect them. The fact that you are optimistic about something, makes you work hard to achieve it. If happiness is what we are striving to achieve, then happiness will be what we will get – the mind of an optimist.

I am of the opinion that your happiness does not depend on anyone other than you. This means no one can make you turn around your unhappy life to living a happy life other than you. Smile all the time. Choose to be positive and fight negativity. Make sure you do the things that make you happy, spend time with those that put a smile on your face and know that your present and future happiness depends on you alone.
