You deserve to love yourself. You deserve to be comfortable in your own skin. In this article, you will find 9 great tips to get rid of negative thoughts and change your thinking so as to change your life.

We both know it: those negative thoughts are preventing you from reaching your full potential. They convince you that your comfort zone is best – because you might think that you are not good enough. These thoughts create self-doubt and ruin your chances of even developing a strong and solid self-esteem.

It should be noted that our thoughts play a vital role on our behaviour and daily interactions with others. This is one of the main reasons I use affirmations on days when I doubt my full potential because according to the National Science Foundation, an average adult has between 12k to 60k thoughts a day of which 80% of these thoughts are negative. This is an alarming statistic don’t you think!?

Also, here is another reason why affirmations are good according to Padraig O.morain ( Psychotherapist) who said that ‘affirmations are thoughts that you introduce to your mind because they are helpful and because they can change the tone of your thinking from negative to positive’

Even though most of our thoughts are repetitive, keep reading this post as I will be providing you with 9 amazing tips to get rid of negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones.

First things first, remember to breathe, let it go, live, and enjoy the beauty of this present moment. If you cannot stop thinking about how goofy and alone, you are or always imagining the worst possible scenario. Then, I think it is time we put this baby to bed and change your mindset. Here are some 9 tips on how to replace those negative thoughts once and for all:

Take screenshots of the cute texts from your loved ones

When you have a negative and debilitating thought, try to balance it out with a positive one. Of course, this is hard to do when we have trained our minds to see only the worse in ourselves.

Therefore, you should take screenshots of the sweet, great, and beautiful messages sent by your friends, family members, and old flames. If you are unable to fill your mind with positive thoughts, allow your loved ones do that for you. Accept all the compliments too.

Surround yourself with words of encouragement.

Buy a phone case with an inspirational quote on the back.

Turn your desktop background into something that can boost your mood e.g., with a motivating slogan!

Stick post-it notes on the mirror and let them remind you that you are valuable.

Place encouraging sayings be it as a picture frame in your work room, on the fridge, or set a reminder on your smartphone or in your calendar.

Always surround yourself with positive, uplifting, and inspiring things.

Change your body language.

You probably already know that you will feel better if you just smile – even if you must force yourself to do it. Smile for 2 minutes, and you will look and feel better. Your body cannot help it.

But there is more you add to your smile.

Tip: You can also put in some pictures of your pet or your favourite mug. The main thing is that you collect everything that directs your thoughts to a more positive direction.

Write down your negative thoughts

Keep a list of your negative thoughts on your phone or in a journal. Write down what time of day it is, what the thought was, and what caused it to pop into your head. After a few days, you should be able to see a pattern.

You could be most negative when you are with a certain person, when you are hungry, or when you are bored.

Discovering what is triggering your negative thoughts could help you figure out a way to get rid of them forever!

Listen to beautiful, energetic, and positive music

You have probably already noticed that the people you surround yourself with can massively affect your mood. For this reason, you should also hang out with people who make you feel good about yourself.

However, you should also pay attention to what kind of music you are listening to. How can you expect to be in a good mood and think positive things about yourself when you only hear songs about heartbreak, pain, or other unpleasant things? This is how we have programmed our minds for negativity. Whereas happy, energetic music will put you in a better mood.

Take better care of your body

You will be in a much better mood if you eat healthier meals, get about 8 hours of sleep, and get enough exercise every day. When you exercise, it increases your serotonin levels, which helps your brain regulate mood.

It also increases your endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers.

Do not forget that your mind and body are connected. And when your body is healthier, it will have a positive effect on your mind.

If you find yourself in a negative spiral and are being too harsh on yourself, you should listen to a fun podcast, watch your favourite series, or just have a healthy snack.

When you are done with this, you may not even remember what you got upset about in the first place. Try as much as possible to be going for healthy distractions and not use alcohol or drugs.

Get therapy

Unfortunately, getting rid of negative thoughts is not always as easy as taking a bubble bath and wearing bright colours.

If you have been thinking negatively all your life and you want to change that thought process or have had failed attempts to do it by yourself or with the help of family and close friends, maybe you should seek out a therapist?
